With a file sync client, files can be automatically synchronized between the Cloud server and your devices.

  1. Go to the Google Play Store, and install the Nextcloud app for Android.

  2. Open the app, and click the Log in button.

  3. Enter the Cloud server address: https://cloud.w3ctag.org/.

  4. Connect to your account by clicking the Log in button.

  5. If prompted, enter the following information and click the Log in button.

    Name Value
    Username or Email address Your W3C TAG username or email address, e.g. sarah or sarah@w3ctag.org
    Password Your regular W3C TAG account password (not your app password for this Android device)

  6. if you’ve enabled 2FA for your account, you’ll also be prompted for your TOTP:

  7. Click the Grant access button to grant the sync app access to your cloud account.

  8. The Nextcloud app requires access to file storage on your Android device. Click Allow to continue.

  9. You now have online access to files in your cloud account.

Because mobile devices have limited storage, files aren’t synced for offline access by default. However, you can configure which files/folders you wish to have synced, along with many other options.

 Calendar,  Tasks, and  Contacts Sync

Android devices do not offer native CalDAV or CardDAV support at this time, but you can add secure and reliable two-way sync of calendars, tasks, and contacts with a third-party app such as:

DAVx⁵ CalDAV/CardDAV for Android lets you manage and synchronize address books, calendars, and task lists with a single app. Works with your favorite calendar and contacts app.

To set up calendar or contacts synchronization using DAVx⁵ on Android:

  1. Tap the add (+) button to add a new CardDAV/CalDAV account.

  2. Select Login with email address, and enter the following information:

    Name Value
    Email address Your W3C TAG email address, e.g. sarah@w3ctag.org
    Password Your app password for this Android device (not your regular W3C TAG account password)

    Tap LOGIN. DAVx⁵ will query the base URL from your email address for both CalDAV and CardDAV, and use whatever it finds.

  3. Account name defaults to your email address, but it can be whatever you like. Click CREATE ACCOUNT

  4. Tap on your newly-created account to view and select available address books and calendars to sync.

  5. Tap the CARDDAV tab, and select the address book(s) you wish to sync.

    In the example below, there is one available address book on the Cloud server called “Contacts”

  6. Tap the CALDAV tab, and select the calendar(s) you wish to sync.

    In the example below, there is one available calendar on the Cloud server called “Personal”. You may see additional calendars available for synchronizing (e.g. “Birthdays”, “Holidays”, etc.)

  7. Tap the back arrow at the top-left to return to the main screen.

DAVx⁵ will run in the background and automatically sync contacts, calendar items and tasks between your device and your Cloud server account.
